Email subject lines to accelerate your email open rates
Did you know that 47% of email recipients open emails based on the subject line alone? At the same time, 69% of email recipients report email as spam based solely on the subject line.
Your email itself could contain the perfect thing a prospect is looking for, but if they aren’t interested enough to open the email, what’s the point? Fear not, the solution is simple: improve your email marketing with more captivating subject lines.
Here are a number of ways you can do this:
Dare to be different
There’s no doubt about it, people like different. Getting creative with your email subject lines by using something different or unexpected will make your email stand out. You want your email to stand out from the crowd against the other potentially 100’s of sales emails a prospect receives.
This doesn’t mean getting too weird with it. However, do figure out what’s unique and interesting about your sales message and use that to stir the reader’s curiosity.
The fear factor
One psychological principle that is practically impossible to resist is the fear of missing out. For example, adding words such as “urgent”, “important” or “limited time” will help grab attention and entice recipients to act faster.
As they say, people are more likely to like you if you can make them laugh, why not apply this to your email marketing. If your subject line makes your recipients laugh, then why wouldn’t they open it. Therefore, adding humour to your email adds a more personal level, showing them that you are human (if you in fact are).
If you have done your market research, you should know your intended audience’s pain points. Make use of this knowledge and get subscribers to open your emails by solving that problem for them.
Sometimes less is more, according to an analysis of more than 40 million emails, subject lines with three or four words generate the most responses.
Before writing your next email subject line, keep these tips in mind for the highest possible open rates.
